It’s that time of the year again, time to review your Health Insurance Plan for 2018!
There is much confusion about the 2018 open enrollment period for health insurance: This year’s open enrollment is November 1 – December 15 (45 days). Contrary to the news reports, insurance premium subsidies will remain in force for 2018. However, the cost-sharing reductions based on projected 2018 income are now funded by insurance carriers instead of the Federal Government. As a result, non-subsidized premiums are set to skyrocket for health insurance starting January 1, 2018.

Those eligible to receive a 2018 premium subsidy will not feel the impact – subsidies will increase to offset the price increase. Many subsidy recipients may auto-enroll into the same plan without much of an increase. Those not eligible to receive a premium subsidy and therefore subject to the increase may find more affordable options and fresh, new ideas in this newsletter.
